I took a drive to one of the local lakes in Bellville area to try out the flies. Autumn is always a tricky time of the year to fish for bass but I was soon into some good bass. Nothing huge but on a 5 weight rod, who cares....
The eyes...
A frizz fry minnow # 4 with clear rhinestones eyes. Awesomeness....
Red eyes anyone?
The eyes on a Poler fiber minnow. I love this pattern because it elicits spectacular takes.
A
polar fiber minnow with clear rhinestones eyes. This one is tied on a
#4 carp hook. Always tie these flies on using a loop knot. They fish
just under the surface so takes are very visual.
For
further information on how to tie and fish them as well as the frizz
fry, check out my E Book at www.seanmillsflyfishing.weebly.com
Pretty as a picture and full of bass and bluegill
Fresh
water crabs are common in South African waters but unheard of in
America. There they have fresh water crayfish. Bass love eating crabs...
I need to tie up a few foam bodied ones to fish on a fast sinking line
for the coming winter... Fly fisherman beware, they can also use their
sharp claws to snip fly lines in half...
This bass took a frizz fry with the new 3D eyes
I
caught this bass in the evening using a black fritz fished underneath a
foam hopper. The hopper acted as an indicator and I caught several fish
using this technique. I had a lot of bass slashing at frizz fries and
missing before changing to the technique.
One of the bluegill that ate the fritz. I like to use a size 8 fritz in black with blue flash and a tungsten #4 mm bead.
